Wild Ponies of Chincoteague – Encaustic Series

$50.00

Mixed Media Encaustic on Wood Panel
These encaustic paintings honor the legendary wild ponies of Chincoteague and Assateague—believed to be descendants of Spanish horses that swam ashore after a shipwreck centuries ago.

Each year, the Saltwater Cowboys lead the ponies in the dramatic Pony Run, now celebrating its 100th anniversary, to raise funds for the Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Department. One pony is always auctioned off to a young horse lover who otherwise couldn’t afford one—a gesture of legacy, love, and accessibility I deeply admire.

As a girl, Misty of Chincoteague captured my heart. Today, I paint these wild horses in layers of wax, pigment, and memory—not just from the Eastern shores, but from across the American landscape.

Commission inquiries welcome for custom encaustic portraits of wild horses or personal equine companions.
