Watercolors

“I like to travel with a watercolor box and notebook in hand, ready to capture fleeting moments in color. Watercolor, with its unique capacity for both transparency and opacity, allows me to layer light and shadow—sometimes letting the white of the paper shine through, other times mixing white pigment directly for subtle luminosity and contrast.”

"More Than a Portrait"

"My pets—horses, cats, dogs—animals in general are some of my favorite subjects to attempt. They move at their own rhythm, with a natural grace that can’t be staged. I try to find my own mark, my own gesture, to capture their essence in motion. Even when the likeness isn’t exact, the personality still shines through—there’s a feeling, a presence that emerges in the lines, shapes, colors, and forms. And rather than feeling disappointed, I’m often delighted when something personal comes through—something from me—that makes the piece feel honest and alive."

LANDSCAPES

"With watercolor landscapes, I feel it all—the salt on the breeze, the warmth of the sun, the hush or howl of the wind. I sense the coming of a storm, the heat rising from a desert wash, the shimmer of stillness before the land shifts. Nature calls me in, and I can’t help but follow. I’m fully there, immersed in place and feeling. It’s not just how I see a place—it’s how I truly know it. With watercolor, this knowing happens in motion—it’s fast, it’s slow, it’s movement and breath. Sometimes the color builds in layers, and other times, it’s simply the brilliance of letting the white come through."
